'4 Week No Heat' Challenge - UPDATE.

6 days ago, I started the '4 Week No Heat' Challenge, and thought it was time to update you all. Well...i haven't used any hot tools in EIGHT days. Eight whole days! How I have managed, I do not know! Okay, so it's hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be. The only downside is, without blow-drying, I'm not achieving much volume, which means I'm washing it a bit more often than before. I've tried using mousse for volume and that helped, but I don't want to use it too much. However, my hair feels softer and is actually shinier than before, and it's only been over a week. I'm still using my Extraordinary Oil, so maybe that's helping. I'm still losing as much 'fallout' as before, but I've been so stressed with college and other stuff, so I'm hoping this settles down. I'm looking forward to seeing my hair after full 4 weeks, but I am missing my hair-dryer a lot. I start work experience for college on Monday, so here's hoping I don't turn up on my first day looking like a hot mess...

Something New - '10 Things' Thursday

I've been thinking of trying something new on my blog, and I've decided to introduce '10 Things' Thursday. Basically, every Thursday, I will give a list of 10 things. It could be things I love about a certain thing, things I hate, things that bug me, things I want to do, anything!!!! My first post will be posted soon, as it's almost Thursday!

I tag...
Bex from Futures
Lizzie from Cupcakes & Cosmetics
Rachel from Life of a Sweetaholic
Charlotte from Confessions of a Small town Girl
Emma from Fallen Angel to Yummy Mummy
Charlotte from Charlotte Marie
Maria from Maria Sparkle
Fisi from Oh Snap Babes!

...and anyone else who wants to do this! ;)

Don't Know What To Title This Post...

I was going through some of my favourite blogs and looking at old posts (even though I should have been doing my assignment...naughty, naughty!) I came across this tag on Bex's blog, Futures. I loved it and decided to do it myself, so here goes :)

 Mood:
I'm pretty tired right now. I didn't get much sleep last night, and I was up early for college this morning...tired and stressed, but content.

♥ If you could dine (for free) anywhere in the world tonight, where would it be?
Hmmn..i think it would have be a lovely Indian restaurant...somewhere abroad. All you can eat. Or just McDonald's ;)

♥ Do you have any siblings?
I have eight brothers, and no sisters.

If your pets could talk, what would they say about you?
My cats would say that i'm an amazing owner (obviously) and I give the best cuddles and snuggles :)

♥ Which one do you follow most often, your heart or your head?
I follow my head more than my heart, which isn't always the best option.

♥ What are three songs on your road trip playlist?
Insomnia by Faithless
Titanium by David Guetta
aaaaandd...Home by Daughtry.
(usually, our long roadtrips are to see my family, & Home reminds me of, well...home)

Would you consider yourself renowned or famous for anything in particular?
Not at all...although my family did appear in newspapers twice, and on a tv programme. Only because our huge family moved from the city to the country...why even?!

♥ Your favourite place for dessert?
Omg. In the city where i lived last, there's a yummy Mexican restaurant. They do a dessert called 'The Aztec'. It's just 3 or 4 scoops of ice cream, topped with hot chocolate sauce and chopped hazelnuts...simple, but so so delicious! Craving it now, damn!

♥ Scariest movie you've ever seen?
As much as I love scary movies, it's hard to scare me...but saying that, The Blair With Project freaked me out a little!

♥ Weekly goals:
The week is almost over, but I have to get the-worst-and-hardest-assignment-ever-in-the-history-of-the-world-and-why-does-it-even-exist-it-is-so-stressful...FINISHED! And I want to get a start on sorting out the spare bedroom.

You should all do this, and put your links below! :)

The '4 Week No Heat' Challenge!

I remember reading a lot about this challenge in 2011. Although I'm a little late jumping on the bandwagon, I've decided to try it anyway. No hair-dryer, no straightening and no curling...all hot tools banned for FOUR weeks! It will be hard, but I'm determined to give it a try and stick it out. I love my hair-dryer and the volume it gives. I love how straight GHDs make my hair. And I just love curling my hair...damn it, why do I talk myself into doing this stuff?

I'm hoping my hair will grow a little more, as it tends to get to a certain length and really slow down...plus I'd love to have it past my boobs. My hair is in pretty good condition now, and the hair oils I use really help. But I want to see how the challenge will work out for me.

This is my hair right now, drying naturally from earlier today

I actually don't mind letting my hair dry naturally...every once in a while. Sometimes it gets a little frizzy, but nothing a bit of serum doesn't sort out. It dries naturally into nice little waves, and I think that's the way my fiancé prefers it...win win :) I know 4 weeks might seem a little crazy, but I know I can do it. I think. I hope. Haha

I will do updates every week (if I remember, haha)

Last day of using heat: January 17th
Finishing date: February 14th (Valentine's day!)

Bring it on!

Have you tried this challenge, or are you going to? Link me to your blog below so I can follow and keep up to date!

5 Beauty Investments

Like most girls, I love all things related to beauty and make-up. Over the past years, I've picked up some things that will last me for ages. I've decided to share a few of them with you. Only one of them was quite expensive, but they will all last me a long time. One of the items is pretty new, and the rest are old enough...still going strong, though!

These are some of my little beauty investments that I've decided to share with you today...I've done reviews on some of them, and i'll link them below :)

L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil - full review here

Amazing amazing amazing product! This is a fairly new purchase for me, and I will definitely repurchase it when it runs out. It's made such a huge difference to my hair. I paid around €8.50 for it, and it's been worth every cent so far, and i think it will last me a good while.

ELF Powder Brush - full review here

Love these brushes, i have two now. I use one for liquid foundation and another one for powder foundation to set the liquid. It gives me a lovely flawless finish and doesn't shed at all. When I bought it, it cost me €4, but I think ELF's prices have gone up a little. It's still worth it though, still going strong a year later.

eBay Beauty Blender - full review here

I purchased this from eBay almost 5 months ago, and still love it as much as day one. I read that it should be replaced after 3-4 months, but i still have mine because i don't use i every day. I take turns using this and the ELF powder brush. I love how the beauty blender makes my foundation look...flawless. This is quicker than using a brush for foundation, and the tapered top means it gets into the side of my nose and eye area perfectly. This cost me a grand total of €1.39...amazing!

120 eyeshadow palette - full review here

I absolutely can't get enough of this eyeshadow palette..it has every colour you could want. I use it most days and every colour is still there! The colours are really pigmented, and there's everything from mattes, to shimmers, to marbles. I paid around €7 for this, and it's been worth every single cent. I've had it around 2 years now I think (maybe a little less, maybe a little more). Definitely a fabulous investment.

GHD hair straightener

I don't have a review on this, but I think everyone and their granny has this hair straightener...hahaha, not really though ;) I'm not sure how I much  paid, maybe around €130? It's cheaper now because there's so many other ones out there. I love this for straightening and curling. I've had it for a good few years now and it's still going strong, i've never had any problems with it. I just love how straight it makes my hair and it lasts all day! Everyone needs to own one of these.

Nails | Rimmel 'Sunshine'

Yesterday was a pretty crappy day, so I decided to paint my nails in an attempt to cheer myself up. I couldn't decide on yellow or orange, but eventually picked yellow! I went for the brightest yellow I have.

The colour I chose is 'Sunshine' by Rimmel. It's from the 'I  Lasting Finish' range. It was perfect to add a bit of sunshine to my day today, as we had rain, rain, wind and more rain. I absolutely love this colour! I'm not sure if it's still available on the high street (i haven't seen it in forever!), but i'm sure you can get it online...eBay is your best friend! ;)

Although I love the colour, I don't love the staining it leaves on my nails. It only happens sometimes, and that's even using a basecoat! >_< other than that, it's lovely, and it lasts around 5 days for me, without a topcoat.

Getting Your Cat Neutered...

This is a different post from me today, but I'm a huge cat lover (a cat-aholic, i'll have you know) so I thought I'd do a little post sharing tips for when your male cat gets neutered. My little man, Prince, went to get neutered this morning, so I have some little tips for you, for when your cat is getting neutered, and what to expect when he's home.

This is just for male cats. My female cat was spayed before we got her, so I don't know what it's like to look after a female spayed cat, or what needs doing...Google is your friend!

This is my little man before his surgery...

Isn't he adorable?  The vet loves him!

When you book your cat in to be neutered, they will tell you not to feed him the night before. He must fast for at least 12 hours before the surgery. This minimises the chance of nausea and your cat vomiting. They should still have a bowl of water to drink during the fast.

When you bring your little man home, lay down newpapers or old towels/sheets. Male cats can tend to have a little accident, so newspaper or towels/sheets are handy to help absorb the pee.

Your cat may not want to eat, just sleep. Put out a small amount of food for him, preferably 'wet' food (soft food). A quarter of a pouch is plenty. Wet food is much easier to eat than dry food, especially when your cat is in the state he's in.

If he does eat the food, put out a tiny bit more. If he doesn't want the food, don't force it. Leave it near him so it's there when he feels like eating it. When he's eating normally, give him his normal-sized portion.

If you have other cats, put the neutered cat into a room on his own. Make sure he has his food, water, litter tray and a very comfortable bedWhen he's more awake, you can try to introduce him to the other cat slowly, holding back the other cat. If it attacks or hisses, put it out of the room so the neutered cat is alone again.

Your cat shouldn't lick his incisions. Your vet may or may not give you a plastic Elizabethan collar/cone to put on your cat. If you don't get one, keep an eye on your cat. If he licks the area, check to see if he's licking his incision or grooming himself. If he's grooming himself, it's fine. If he licks the incision, you should put a cone on him for a few days.

If you think your cat has a fur-ball, it may come up after surgery. A little coughing is normal.

You might want to think about using litter that is not dusty. The dust can irritate the neuter site.

Keep your cat inside for 5-10 days after neutering (different vets say different things, so ask yours). If he is an outdoor cat, keep him in. Venturing outdoors means the neuter site is more prone to infection.

Your cat will probably wriggle around a lot when trying to get comfortable...don't force him to lie down. When he finds a position he's comfortable in, he will settle down.

******

Now for Prince's little neutering story..

Prince was booked in for 9.45am this morning, but he had to fast from 7pm last night. It was a bit of a nightmare because he was hungry during the night and kept mewling for food. I felt awful because I wasn't allowed to feed him! He did have his bowl of water, which he sipped at throughout the night. I dropped him into the vet at 9.30am, and collected him at 3pm. When I took him home in his cage, he was still sedated and half-asleep. When we bought him into the house, our other cat, Jess, was curious to see what was going on and why her little non-related-brother was away all day. The two cats aren't normally the best of friends (they will rub noses, but like to wind each other up too), but Jess wasn't too bothered. I think she missed him though! He wandered around for a few minutes, still groggy and falling around a bit. I let him go where he wanted and he finally settled in the kitchen, so I brought down his bed, water, food and litter so everything is near him. Jess is in the sitting room with us, so Prince is alone and has time to recover.

Earlier in the day, when he first got home, he went up the stairs. He sat in a corner in the bathroom, coughed a little and vomited a small bit. I cleaned it up and he's been fine since. He wanted to explore the house, but he was so out of it, he couldn't. He did attempt to jump onto the bed...the first time, he failed. I tried to help but he mewled a little. I didn't want to hurt him, so left him at it. The second time he tried to jump up, he made it. He lay there on my lap for a while and just slept. He jumped down off the bed before I could stop him, but he did it with no problems...but I wince when I think about it now. How didn't he hurt himself?!

A bit later, he went down the stairs by himself, again, before I could stop him. I left him at it but had to giggle at how funny he looked, hahaha. Right now, he's snuggled up in his bed in the kitchen, with everything he needs beside him. He hasn't moved much in a few hours, just changed positions every so often. He's not interested in food again properly just yet, but he's eaten a tiny bit. He'll just sleep the evening away, and I'll keep him isolated, and away from Jess. The vet reckons he'll be right as rain tomorrow, so hopefully she's right...it's not the same when he's not bounding around the house wanting to play!

******

Our set-up in the bedroom, including old hair-dyed towels in case of accidents...he's now in the kitchen, so everything is the same, just moved.

Sleeping on his face..so out of it!

On the bed, sleeping with his nose touching the bedsheet..so cute!

Those are my little tips for when you get your little man neutered...it's the best thing for them, seriously. Nobody can call to your door with a litter of kittens (did you know that if your male cat gets a female pregnant, the owner of the female cat can bring the kittens to YOUR house and you're in charge of them?! That's what i heard anyway...). Another good thing about neutering is that your cat is less likely to roam. It's supposed to 'calm them down', but I still have to see about that one.

Yay for neutering!

Hair | L'Oréal Elvive Extraordinary Oil

I had heard rave reviews about this hair oil and thought it was about time I jumped on the bandwagon and tried it! I love anything hair related...if it involves making my hair healthier and more manageable, I'm all for it...especially hair treatments and oils! I blow-dry my hair a lot, so it's not as healthy as it could be. I'm quite lucky that only my ends get slightly dry. It does annoy me, but i can't complain because no one's making me blow-dry my hair ;) A few weeks before Christmas, I came across the hair oil for €8.50 in Dunnes Stores in Ireland. I've found that prices differ in different places. On the Boots website, it retails at £9.99. I still think it's worth it as you get 100ml of product, which is a lot!

There were two choices; one for all hair types, and one for coloured hair. I picked up the bottle for coloured hair because, well...i colour my hair, hahaha. The coloured one contains a UV filter to protect hair from UV rays. You can see from the pictures how much I've used so far (2-3 drops each time).

First of all, I absolutely love the packaging. It's so luxurious, and the bottle is glass. And I love the fact that it has a pump, unlike a lot of other hair products out there. This way, you know exactly how much you need to use without wasting any or making your hair worse than it was!

The oil itself is very versatile, gives hair luminous colour, makes hair sumptuously soft and gives hair a weightless touch. You can use before shampooing for extra colour protection, before styling to protect and transform your hair, and as a finishing touch to make hair soft and give luminous colour.

The consistency of the oil is like water, not 'oily' at all like you may think. You're directed to rub 2 drops into the palm of your hands and apply it evenly through your hair. A little goes a long way! However, I mainly apply it to the ends, and the remainder throughout the rest of my hair. I use it 2-3 drops on towel-dried hair every time I wash it (every 2-3 days). Most other days of the week, I apply a bit to the ends of my hair. Sometimes if I feel my hair could do with a little bit more shine, I'll use one pump. Despite what you might think, it doesn't make your hair greasy at all and it doesn't make your hair get oily faster.

The oil is lightly scented and light feeling in the hand and on the hair. I love how my hair looks and feels when I've used it. It's shinier, weightless and since I've started using it, my hair has become more healthy. It's definitely not as dry as it used to be. It eases any fly-aways I may have, and split ends practically disappear..my hair looks amazing when I use it. I have fine hair, so I'm not really sure how it will work for girls with thicker hair, but it's worth a shot.

This has been one long ass review but I've said everything I needed to say, so I'll leave it at that! Overall, I would definitely recommend it to anybody. If your hair is in need of some TLC, this is the product for you.

Love it!

New 'Simple' purchases.

I'm a massive fan of Simple products. They're affordable, amazing and they use the purest possible ingredients in their products. I've been using Simple for a few years now, and it's by far the best skincare range I've tried. I suffer from dry skin and psoriasis, and it's safe to say i've tried a lot of skincare brands, from St Ives to Astral to Neutrogena to Nivea. I can honestly say that Simple is the best for my skin, and has made a huge difference to my skin.

I only needed a few bits but I might have got a bit carried away...oops! But what can I say? I'm a girl and I can't help it. Or at least that's my excuse!

I know, I know...you're probably looking at the photo and saying "that is a LOT of cleanser"..and I have to agree, it is a lot. BUT, I cleanse every morning before moisturising, and I use it to take off my make-up every night (i never sleep with make-up on). If I don't wear make-up that day, I still cleanse, tone and moisturise without fail every single night. Even when I'm ridiculously drunk, I do it.

I was in the pharmacy a few days ago, and I picked up a cleanser and eye make-up remover (separately). I was in the pharmacy again yesterday, and well...where there's an offer, I'm there! I picked up a special offer pack, which had a cleanser and moisturiser, for €5. Bargain! Then I came across the toner...for the price it was (around €3.55) I was better off getting the special offer pack for €5, so I did. It came with another cleanser.

Overall in the couple of days, I spent round €15, which is amazing for what I got. They last for ages, and I'm guessing the cleansers will see me through til at least July, if not longer!

Do you use Simple products?

My New Year's Resolutions!

Every single year, so many of us make New Year's resolutions...and every single year, most of us manage to break them (well...i do anyway. Usually in the first week or two!) Still, it doesn't stop me from making them every year ;) so here goes. Oh, and I know I'm over a week late..but shh!

1. Finish my Childcare course
I have days where I just want to leave because everything gets so damn stressful and too much. But..i'm determined to finish it and get a qualification at the end of it. Although I can't wait til we finish!

2. Stress less
Seriously..i stress way too much, with coursework, money and constant battles with myself. I'm going to pamper myself more often..face masks, foot spas, nails, hair. I need to relax and unwind more.

3. Lose weight and tone up
I make this 'resolution' even in the middle of the year...yet I always give up after I lose a few pounds. I lack motivation and self discipline, and I hate not having someone to do it with. This year, I have a friend from college who's doing it with me. We're determined to get in shape together this year.

4. Read more books
I absolutely love sitting down with a good book, a cup of hot cocoa and a cosy blanket..but college and Internet distractions (Facebook, Twitter & YouTube!) make it hard to sit down and actually read a book anymore. I have a few books on my 'to-read' list, and I want to get them all finished this year. I have started one, but again, distractions make it harder to just sit down and read.

5. Have a baby
If you know me well or if you're close to me, you'll know that myself and my fiancé are trying for a baby. We have been for a little while with no luck yet. Hopefully this year..

Have you made a resolutions blog post? If so, pop a link below..i'd love to see them!
And...good luck!

Make this year special...

I came across something on Facebook a couple of days into the new year, and it really made me smile!

The idea is to get an empty glass jar, and add a little note every time something good happens. Then on 31/12/13, you empty the jar and read all the little notes, which will tell you how amazing your life was in 2013! Such a clever and simple little idea :)

I really wanted to give it a go, so I took an empty jar and wrapped some Hello Kitty ribbon around the top. I bought some neon memo sheets, because I love how the picture on Facebook looked...and let's face it..colourful is better than white sometimes! And if you're wondering how the memo notes aren't sticking to each other, i patted them onto the back of my hand a few times to remove the stickiness ;)

Before I started...

I've only got a few notes in the jar, but I'm only starting, but this is one of them...my favourite!

 My little jar so far..yay!!

I'm loving it so far, and I can't wait to read it all at the end of the year...even seeing the bright colours of the notes every morning cheers me up a little. I think everyone should give this a go..it will be nice to see how brilliant our year has been and what made it so special.
